My first car
It’s name was Gar
Gar the car did go far!
I drove to the ocean
From the city on the lake.
When I got there I baked a cake!
Gar was a Gremlin by AMC
Built in 1970
Gar was cute
Gar was blue
Gar had rust
Oh, what to do?
I used duct tape
On Gar the Car
It was a band-aid
On Gar’s face marred
By salt and rain and sleet and snow
Oh, how Gar loved to go!
He loved the repair shop
He cared not where!
We visited one in Bel-Aire
We saw one in Boulder
And in Kalamazoo
At one hundred and twenty two
Thousand Miles that is
It seems that Gar
Loved show biz!
He’d show up on
Every single lift
And give business
To the mechanics in it!
We drove through the desert
Gar and me
We drove through with no a/c
Oh, how Gar loved to be
In the mountains
Feeling free
When I told my brother
What I’d done
Driven Gar
From the setting sun
He said the pioneers
Would be proud of me!
Because it was so crazy strange and weird
To drive a car without a beard
One lone woman - no more
Drove to Illinois from California in ’84
That’s how it was
With my first car
We did travel very far!
