The River Mersey

110 kilometers
Arm through the Pennines
Sauntering past Runcorn
Ebbing slowly to the Irish Sea
That’s our River Mersey
It means the world to me
Me lads and I spent many a time
When we worked the docks
From Liverpool to Birkenhead
A stop at the pub, then home to bed
We seen a bit of Salford and Manchester
On then again to Liverpool
Oh, the smells, the tastes
The sights and the sounds
The images I recollect
How the memories surround me
It’s many a year now
My time is gone and done
But there you are, River Mersey
Flowing on and on
