ON THE WAY TO THE CAMP

Fear and the ice of fear,
a need to sleep and not knowing sleep,
and then a settling warm shapes the space.
There is great terror here--
terror beyond cruel kindness
sadistic honesty
masochist love.
The warm seeps in like soup.
We allow it in, let it cover us,
find conflict in a slip into sleep.
