Thank you for your interest in the Bathroom Poetry Project.

The project is looking for original works to post in public bathrooms.

If a coordinator exists in your city, we will put you in touch with the coordinator to get your work installed. If your city does not have a coordinator, please consider coordinating for your area.

By doing this, you contribute to the arts in your community through poetry accessed by the public in non-traditional spaces.

Things to consider and steps for submission:

    1. Submit poem OR request to coordinate to bathroompoet@hotmail.com

    2. Include proposed location with full address (EX: 178 Madison Ave., Kensington, MD. 20895). Please consider working with the proprietor of the site - this tends to keep the poems up for a longer time (but guerilla is OK too).

    3. Once accepted, and built as a web page, I will send you a formatted version of your poem to post at your site. This will be sent via e-mail to you, you can print out and then post in the bathroom. It helps to put the poem in a plastic sheet protector to formalize the installation and protect the poem.

    4. Please send me an e-mail when the post is completed. It is at that time we will FTP (add) your poem to the website created for your city.

    5. Special projects or events around this project are encouraged - please contact me to set up a special event or reading with your city coordinator.
    6. When your poems is accepted as part of the The Bathroom Poetry Project, The Bathroom Poet (r. Coll) acquires initial electronic rights and indefinite internet archive rights, as well as first/one time hard-copy publication rights in the event that a chapbook or other paper publication is created from the project. Copyright is always retained by the author.

Considerations

Your poem on the website would be accompanied by some kind of bathroom art - you can send to me in the submission e-mail as a JPEG, or I will create one like those on the site (black and white only).

Please do not post in federal or municipal spaces. Bookstores and coffee shops are always good, mall bathrooms, bakery's, tea rooms, bars etc.

The poet will be responsible for posting the poem in the designated bathroom. I will follow-up with a letter to the "events manager" for that specified location in order to explain the project.

Poems are 'refreshed' regularly by snail-mail communications with the location managers/owners.

Keep in mind these poems should be posted public bathrooms rather than private locations in order to maximize exposure to your poetry. Content can be anything as long as you think it is appropriate for the location.

Alas, no payment for participation in this project at this time.

This has been a very satisfying project, and one I hope you will enjoy participating in. I hope you'll join the .............
