A Sonnet for Someone
What is it that makes a man give in,
Throw away all dreams and become victim again?
Why does he take himself to the sad places he’s been,
Since when has he felt pain so necessary to obtain.
Was it from Childhood, from the receiver
Of his father’s own pain and confusion through aggression?
And from then on was infected with this fever
That consumed his life and became his obsession?
Was it fair for him to suffer when he was fighting to shield
His brother and sister from uncontrollable rage,
Which their father laid on him with hand as he kneeled
Bent over until his old man checked his gage?
What ever it was finely killed with compassion
And let him fly free from his cage now ashen.
