He wrote: "The pianist, who was me, stood up and pushed the bench that was his seat back nine inches. He sat down and pulled the bench forward a bit and sat down, looking down, and for a moment loosing himself in the ordered symmetry of the long black mountains that were distributed along a large, flat lands of white stillness, there, among the deep and unexpected silence.
