Hot in Arizona

The heat bursts upon you after you step off of the cool plane.
97, 98, 99 degrees pushing you sane out!
So much you need to have water.

Waiting friend at the baggage claim with her back turned to you.

You jump. “Surprise!” you yell.
“Could it get any hotter?” Friend hugs you. “Yes!”
Passes you icy cold water.

Sushi in Phoenix and shishkabobs.
Wonderful you could eat. So hot.

Prescott bound. Friends house we go.
Asleep when we arrive. Change of time.
I’m from Maryland, you know.

Wake up in a bed. Hot.
Hot in Arizona.
