NIGHTTPRINTS

Night falls around us
and lands without a sound.
The evening sky changes
from light to dark blue to black
without a paintbrush.
The autumn air cools by degrees
without a thermostat.
Creatures retire to their homes
without prompting.
Night falls around us,
lands softly without a sound,
without a footprint on the earth.
