Absent My Mind
(Guidance for things that tend to go in circles)

If I put my mind to it
a propeller on a plane
can be a hand held fan
or a ceiling fan
radiating out like a sand dollar
a horse in repose, is wound tight
(the horse is on its side or upside down. I forget which)
ready to gallop in wide circles
with textile ripples that radiate and radiate out
like a rug violently shaken
you have to get past that tense calm
past the clear eyes
to the hooves pointed skyward
muscles twitching in every aspect of potential energy
all dressed up
everywhere to go
the horse radiating outward
ready to jump, gallop
into the goddamn sky
if necessary
such horrific strength
you would not believe
muscle memory
pure nature
step 1: radiate out
step 2: lift weight skyward

Like a young child, I want to try
So I move my arms in large circles
like a propeller, galloping
waves of fabric trampled below
waves of muscle and fabric and fan blades whirring and whooshing
and tensing and contracting and releasing and moving the clutter around.

Repeat and fade
